Sedation for combatting dental anxiety/Phobia
We understand that you may be a little apprehensive about undergoing dental procedures, which is why we also offer several options for we offer several types of sedation, which will relax you in the dentist’s chair and allow you to undergo treatment.
Dental sedation is an extremely effective technique designed to relax you and improve your co-operation for even the most difficult of procedures.
Types of Sedation we offer at Market Square Dental practice:
Pre-medication is the process of giving you some anxiety relief prior to your appointment in the form of a pill that is prescribed to be taken the night before and in the hours leading up to the appointment.
Intravenous sedation (IV sedation) is an option that allows dental procedures to be performed while you are under the influence of a sedative drug given via an injection.
It offers a gentle calming effect, creating a drowsy state so we can offer treatment to you comfortably. It also has an amnesic effect so you may not remember most of the procedure afterwards.
It has a quicker recovery time than general anaesthesia and can be used for all kinds of treatments, from surgical procedures to a simple professional clean.
Intranasal sedation is a technique utilised in patients who do not allow placement of a cannula into their vein due to a severe needle phobia. It involves spraying a small amount of sedative into the nostrils which makes you feel the effects of the sedation within 5-10 minutes thereby allowing subsequent cannulation and giving a sense of relaxation and wellbeing throughout treatment.
The drug is delivered using a special atomiser into the nostrils, so it is very effective for patients with needle phobia, and it is suitable for children, too.
